$40,000 'vanishes' from woman's bank account in most frightening experience of her life
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
A woman endured a sleepless night after a glitch resulted in $40,000 'disappearing' from her bank account.
Stomper Rose said that while the issue was eventually resolved, the lack of answers for almost an entirely day left her extremely distressed.
She recounted: "I was transferring money from one account to another when my $40,000 just disappeared. I could not find it anywhere."
According to Rose, the transaction was unsuccessful "but the money was already deducted".
"I called the bank five to six times, but was told to wait and wait for them to check. From 10am to 9pm, I waited and waited for the bank to call," she added.
"At last, one of the customer officers told me it was due to a system problem. If the bank knew that our missing money was the the bank's fault, why couldn't they have refunded our money first? I only got back my money the next morning.
"Can you imagine what I went through the whole day and night? I was desperate. My heart was beating like mad. I almost had an attack. My husband had to rush home from work. I was running up and down crying like a mad woman. I couldn't sleep the whole night. I kept on checking all my accounts every few minutes to find my missing $40,000.
"And what did the bank do? There's no sign of consolation or compensation. The bank just behaved as though nothing happened. I'm very disappointed with our own Singapore bank.
"This was truly my most frightening experience."
