Geylang East resident says neighbour's corridor clutter mostly cleared -- but three items still remain

The Geylang East resident who previously complained about his neighbour cluttering the common corridor says most of the items have now been removed.

However, just a few remain.

In April, Stomper Kevin called out his neighbour at Geylang East Avenue 1 for treating the shared corridor 'like their own house' by placing multiple household items outside their unit and along the common wall.

The Marine Parade Town Council (MPTC) told Stomp they were aware of the situation and had been actively engaging the resident involved to declutter.

However, on May 20, Kevin reported that the corridor remained unchanged.

In response to another Stomp query, MPTC said on May 23: "Since the initial report on April 17, 2025, the town council has engaged the unit involved and sought the resident's cooperation to minimise the items placed along the common corridors.

"The resident has since complied and made efforts in doing so.

"We will continue to monitor the site to ensure that common spaces remain free of clutter and obstructions."

Kevin followed up with a site check on May 24 at 4am and reported that while most of the items had been cleared, only three items were still left unremoved:

1. The unit number mounted on the common wall, unlike other units where it is fixed to the gate or main door.

2. A small painting: "I do not know what the painting is about."

3. A black light fixture installed on the common wall.

The Stomper hopes the town council will take note of the remaining items, but appreciates the changes made.

"As a whole, compared to before, it was quite nicely done," he added.

"It looks more like a normal HDB unit now."

However, he also flagged a separate concern about fire safety, sharing a photo of what he said was a floor mat left to dry on top of a red dry riser water valve.

"I removed the mat and placed it on the unit's floor, which is the correct place," he said.

"This again shows the resident has no knowledge of fire safety and misused the dry riser for personal use."

Kevin conducted a second check on May 27 and said the three items remained in place.
