Ong rings up double at Ipoh debut

Singaporean trainer Jason Ong is already making waves in Malaysia barely four months since his debut.

One week after donning the yellow jersey on the Malaysian trainers' log, the two-time Singapore champion trainer extended that lead with a double at his very first foray to Ipoh for good measure.

Saddling five runners for that baptism of fire on March 30, he won with Pacific Commander and Wins Eight, and was placed once.

Both were already winners for Ong in Singapore where Pacific Commander boasted the more prolific record with three wins.

Incidentally, the pair made their Malaysian debut in Sungai Besi on March 1, without setting the world on fire, but were both well-backed second-up. They both returned $21 for a win on the Singapore tote.

"I'm glad to get a winner on my first visit to Ipoh but credit for the win must go to Rueven (Ravindra) who rode a superb race," said Ong.

"I'll definitely send more horses to race in Ipoh in the future."

Ong currently sits on top on 16 winners, three clear of fellow Kuala Lumpur conditioners Richard Lines and reigning champion Simon Dunderdale, with Lines ahead on a countback for seconds. 
