Race 1 (1,000m)

Less than half a length separated (8) VAMANOS and (5) RED CARAMEL over this distance three weeks ago. The latter won but the former, who would have benefited from that debut experience, could turn the tables.

Watch the betting on well-bred newcomers (7) SAY A WISH and (4) MALIBU.

Race 2 (1,000m)

(1) CONSTELLATION was heavily supported on debut in a 2yo feature and ran accordingly, finishing a close-up fourth over 1,000m. With that experience to count on and improvement expected, he ought to repay his followers.

(3) NYAKA NYAKA has shown enough to trouble the selection.

Newcomer (5) SAFE TRAVEL is worth a market check on debut.

(8) HOTARU can run in the money.

Race 3 (1,600m)

(3) WAGRAM caught the eye when staying on to finish third on her Highveld/stable debut over 1,400m and this extended trip will be more to her liking.

(1) IZANAMI also has more to offer stepping up to this trip.

(8) MATTIAZO and (7) AURORA GREEN are closely matched on the form of a recent meeting over this distance on the Standside track and there should be little between the pair again, though the former is preferred from a favourable No. 1 gate.

Race 4 (1,600m)

(1) SOLDIER’S EYE and (5) MY LADY SOUL are closely matched on the form of a recent 1,400m meeting on the Standside track at a higher level. They renew rivalry on similar weight terms, so there is little between them again.

However, preference is for consistent (4) CAPE LIGHTS who acquitted herself well in a Listed race on the Standside track from a wide draw last time. She wears first-time blinkers and races off a slightly lower mark, so represents an attractive betting proposition.

(3) CEUTA has place claims.

Race 5 (1,600m)

(1) BLIND AMBITION could hardly have been more impressive on her Highveld and stable debut. She was a wide-margin winner of a 1,450m maiden on this track and, with scope for further improvement, may be better than rated.

However, a bigger threat to the selection could be posed by fellow last-start scorers (3) JUNIPER GREEN and (4) SECRET RECIPE.

(5) STREISAND has to be respected.

Race 6 (1,800m)

Both of Joe Soma’s runners at the meeting line up in this race with genuine winning credentials.

Hard-knocker (2) AVOONTOAST would not be winning out of turn after back-to-back recent seconds, so she is preferred to progressive 3yo stablemate (7) SERRANO who blotted his copybook last time but had legitimate excuses.

Fellow sophomores (4) PEACE TREATY and (5) TINTAMARRE are closely matched on the form of a recent 1,450m Vaal Classic meeting – both have the means to play a role in the outcome.

Race 7 (2,600m)

Consistent hard-knocker (2) IDEAL FUTURE will relish this sterner test of stamina and could represent generous each-way value.

Course-and-distance specialists (7) THE MERCIFUL, (5) NUCLEAR FORCE and (6) CLEAR THE PATH are not taken lightly.

Race 8 (1,200m)

Progressive last-start winner (9) IT’S PERSONAL has a say, more so, under 53kg from gate No. 1.

The filly (7) KINDRED HEART fits a similar profile and seems ideally placed to run a forward race under these conditions.

Last-start winners (5) SECRET CHORD and (2) ADDRESS THE NATION (promoted) should remain competitive under resultant penalties. However, both need to find improvement if they are to follow up off their career-high ratings.
