March 1 South Africa (Turffontein) form analysis

Published

Race 1 (1,000m)

(1) ELEGANTRIX sped to victory on debut over 1,160m. Would have come on, and this shorter trip should be right up her alley.

(2) GLASTONBURY confirmed her debut success with a good second over track and trip after a break. She will strip fitter.

Watch the betting on newcomer (5) GREEN DIAMOND.

(6) PRINCESS KEIRA (heavily backed on debut) ought to improve with experience.

Race 2 (1,000m)

(1) READ ALL ABOUT IT impressed when winning on debut and displayed a smart turn of foot to beat the re-opposing (2) BINGO (3kg better off). It could pay to side with the former with the benefit of that experience. The betting will provide clues to the newcomers.

(4) CONSTELLATION and fillies (with a 2.5kg sex allowance) (5) ONE FINE WINTER and (7) TINA LOVELACE appeal most of the first-timers.

Race 3 (1,400m)

(3) HOTARUBI and (1) GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE are both weighted to be competitive. The distance is at the bottom end of Hotarubi's range, and Gimmeanotherchance is back from a break after two ordinary runs.

(2) THE AFRICA HOUSE edged (7) CALANTHA in a close match, and is weighted to confirm his superiority on 1kg better terms.

(5) FRENCH BOLT completes the shortlist.

Race 4 (1,160m)

(3) CYMRIC will appreciate this shorter trip after a disappointing display over 1,400m.

(10) NIGHT BOMBER should make his presence felt, despite resultant penalties.

(4) SILVER TUDOR and (11) BOB'S YOUR UNCLE are also best kept onside.

Race 5 (1,600m)

Best-weighted (1) LET'S GO NOW, thriving (2) LADY FALLON, comeback eye-catcher (3) MINOGUE are all genuine candidates for victory.

However, a chance is worth taking on progressive (8) GIMMEFABULOUS whose career-best 1,400m victory last time suggests this extended trip will suit even better.

Unbeaten (1) SPUMANTE DOLCE will be a popular exotic-bet banker. She belied her inexperience to win Leg 1 of the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara and this extended trip will unlock further improvement.

(2) VJ'S ANGEL and (3) FIERY PEGASUS finished behind that rival over 1,600m in the Fillies Guineas and are unlikely to turn the tables over the extra 200m.

Race 6 (1,800m)

Last-start winner (6) WILLY MEET AGAIN needs to raise his game again to get involved.

Race 7 (1,800m)

(1) PARISIAN WALKWAY made all in Leg 1 of the SA Triple Crown in his first run as a gelding and there should be more to come from him.

(2) ARISTOTLE and (4) LEGEND OF ARTHUR finished behind that rival last time but will appreciate this sterner test of stamina.

Classy (3) FIRE ATTACK and rapidly improving recent winner (10) BUSSTOPINHOUNSLOW have earning potential too.

Race 8 (1,600m)

(1) MAIN DEFENDER sets a lofty standard and is weighted to make a successful defence of his title.

(2) BARBARESCO is closely matched but faces a stern test over a course and distance where the former is undefeated.

(8) GREATERIX and (9) COSMIC SPEED have the means to make life difficult for the selection.

Race 9 (1,000m)

(4) GOLDEN SICKLE reserves her best for Gauteng and will not go down without a fight.

(1) DYCE was not disgraced at Kenilworth last month. He can bounce back to score.

(2) WILLIAM ROBERTSON is very consistent, won a nice race in KwaZulu-Natal last time and is always a danger.

(7) DREAMLAND is consistent and can earn some more money.

Race 10 (1,160m)

(2) AMANDLA NGAWETHU showed enough pace in two Cape Town outings to suggest he can make a winning Highveld debut.

Watch for any market support for (7) WAR OF KINGDOMS.

Fillies (8) GIMME A STORM and (9) BLUE QUARTZ have shown enough to be competitive, especially with the benefit of a sex allowance.
