A resident is calling for more proactive action and measures to be taken over safety hazards at Block 722 Yishun Street 71.

Stomper David's feedback comes after he "witnessed a couple of slip and fall incidents" at the block, particularly at Lift Lobby D.

He said: "I made OneService reports with regard to the slippery floor, lack of shelter from rainfall, the improper disposal of unwanted furniture, and a black rubbish bin blocking the walkway to the lift landing back in March 2025.

"However, so far I have received inaction and no updates. I only had a call from the town council, citing that building a shelter in this area would require three to four years of decision-making and surveying.

"The only solution proposed was that they would ensure the floor has some anti-slip coating applied and the big black rubbish bin to be moved further away from the walking area leading to the lift.

"However, no action was taken even though it has been one month.

"Do watch my video and you will see the area that is wet due to rain, with no shelter due to a limited walkway by the surrounding neighbours, discarded furniture and a large black rubbish bin.

"Take note that this is just drizzling rainfall and not a heavy downpour. You can imagine how much worse it can get in heavy rain. This area cannot be accessed at all when this happens.

"In addition, I have observed the adjacent Block 728 with the same lift landing having sheltered walkways and bigger walking areas for residents. I wonder why the town council has not done the same here.

"All the other blocks have sufficient shelters and sheltered walkways to shield residents from the rain except here. There are many elderly residents who use this corner lift landing at Lift D.

"Obviously, this is a major issue for concern as the monsoon season and rainfall has intensified since the beginning of this year.

"Must we have fatal cases happening at this block to justify some recourse or action? I hope to share this for awareness and so that something can be done."

In response to a Stomp query, Nee Soon Town Council said it takes residents' feedback and safety concerns seriously.

A spokesperson shared: "On March 20, we received feedback regarding Lift Lobby D, requesting for the installation of a shelter/awning and the removal of discarded items. The resident also highlighted a safety concern, noting the potential slipping hazard when the area is wet.

"The discarded sofa was promptly cleared. Additionally, the existing black bin will be replaced with a smaller green bin and relocated closer to the lift to provide better shelter from the weather.

"As an interim measure to improve safety, anti-slip coating will be applied to the area by next week, even though no slipping incidents have been reported to date.

"We appreciate the resident's patience and understanding, and we regret any perception of inaction.

"Regarding the request for a shelter/awning, the town council regularly receives various improvement requests across the estate. All requests are reviewed and prioritised based on overall needs and budget availability. We will do our best to expedite the evaluation of this request.

"The town council remains committed to ensuring a safe and pleasant living environment for all residents, and we will keep the resident updated on any developments."
