Littering is a persistent problem in the estate of Yishun Street 72, despite efforts - and complaints - by Stomper Meng.

The resident said he has consistently seen rubbish being left behind at the void decks of Blocks 738 and 745 despite providing feedback to Nee Soon Town Council "on numerous occasions."

Meng shared: "There are two bins at Block 738. The small one does not have a cover, while the big one has a cover. A seating area is just next to the bins.

"On Oct 24, I saw that the small bin was full and litter was strewn all over the ground. People had packed food and eaten their meals at the table, but could not be bothered to throw their food waste into the bigger bin."

The rubbish appeared to have attracted birds, according to photos taken by Meng.

The Stomper added: "This has been happening once or twice per week, with the cleaner clearing the trash at around 7am.

"Overflowing bins are a common problem here. I would ask the town council how to resolve this.

"My suggestion is to remove the seating area. If those that come here to have their meals can't be bothered, why must we provide the table for their use?"

Meanwhile, cigarette butts litter the ground at Block 745, which also has numerous bicycles parked in an errant manner.

Meng told Stomp: "Every morning, you can see cigarette butts all over the floor after people eat, drink and smoke here at night.

"I have filed numerous feedback through OneService and to the town council, but there has been no improvement observed."

On Nov 1, at around 6.30am, Meng spotted plastic cutlery left behind at the seating area at Block 745.

He said: "I cleared the items and threw them into the dustbin. Wait any longer and crows will be feeding on them.

"As a resident here, I hope that my block, especially the void deck, can be kept clean and tidy. I entrust this to the town council but I am very disappointed."

In response to a Stomp query, Nee Soon Town Council said: "Our cleaners conduct daily cleaning of common areas and waste disposal.

"However, a whole-of-community efforts is required to keep our shared spaces clean.

"There are many ongoing campaigns to raise awareness on the problem of littering. One such example is the annual Keep Singapore Clean (KSC) campaign by the Public Hygiene Council (PHC).

"Nee Soon Town Council regularly organises litter picking activities for our residents. This way, we can collectively work towards a clean environment for all to enjoy.

"The town council is also looking at replacing the bins with anti-pilferage bins. This will address the issue of crows looking for food in the bins."

The town council also said that while it is "actively exploring" ways to improve the situation, residents are encouraged to take care of their common areas by keeping the place clean.
