Yew Tee resident complains about altar in void deck, gets told to leave S'pore during Hungry Ghost month
A Yew Tee resident complained on Facebook about an altar in a Housing Board void deck and was told by a netizen to leave Singpore during the Hungry Ghost month.
The resident had posted a photo of the altar at Block 679 Choa Chu Kang Crescent in the Friends Of Yew Tee group on Aug 14 and asked whether it was approved by the Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council or the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
"This also makes the lobby filled with incense smoke, causing inconveniences to all the wheelchair folks and kids in this area," said the resident. "Please remove it ASAP."

He was soon critiicised by other members of the Facebook group.
"It is for prayer for the Seventh Month," said one netizen. "This you also one to complain. It's only one month. Singapore really complain king No. 1. Small little thing also want to complain."
Another commented: "This is very common in almost all the estates in Singapore. If you unable to accept it, please leave Singapore to your country of origin for this Ghost month. Stop bringing in all your nonsense and polluting our culture!"
The post has since been removed.
When Stomp visited the area on the same day, several altars were also spotted together in the void deck of Block 678 Choa Chu Kang Crescent near a coffeeshop. So there were altars in two Choa Chu Kang Crescent void decks.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesman for Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council said it does not allow residents to use the void deck for such purposes.
"We have proceeded to serve notices for the removal of the altars," said the spokesman.
