Worker's salary deducted after man tries on shoes at Bugis store, walks away in them without paying
A man was caught on camera trying on a pair of shoes at a Bugis store – then leaving in them without paying.
Stomper Ng alerted Stomp to the incident that occurred along Bugis Street on Aug 3, at around 4.40pm.
Video footage shows the man, who was barefoot and wearing a cap, removing a pair of slippers from their display at the ground-floor shop.
He then puts on the slippers and walks away in them.
Ng's friend, Ms Chen, was working at the store when the incident took place and had the cost of the slippers deducted from her salary.
Ms Chen told Stomp: "There were other customers in the shop at the time, so I wasn't paying attention to outside.
"This man is scary. He just took the shoes, put them on and walked off. After realising what had happened, I told my boss to check the CCTV camera."
Ms Chen has not made a police report and simply hopes the man will return to make payment: "If he does not come back, I have to pay for the shoes."
Ng said she decided to share the incident with Stomp after reading a similar report involving a woman caught swapping footwear in a shop just days ago.
She added: "As you can see, it was a busy hour and the man looked very professional: Take, wear and go.
"My friend had her salary deducted because of him.
"I think exposing this incident on Stomp is a good way of warning people out there not to steal, because CCTV cameras are real and not toys.
"The issue is we can't find this guy, so we need the media's help."
