# Woman’s backpack disappears from coach after Ipoh trip, later found in KL drain

A passenger returning to Singapore from a holiday in Ipoh said her backpack went missing from a coach, leaving her scrambling to locate it and dealing with additional expenses.

Stomper Sharon shared that her sister Eliz’s turquoise backpack was stored in the luggage compartment of the coach during her return journey on Sept 29.

The siblings discovered the bag was missing at about 8am when they alighted at Woodlands Checkpoint. Eliz was frantic, as the backpack contained items that had both monetary and sentimental value, including:

- Gold earrings that were a gift from her late father
- Three bank cards
- Her NRIC
- Her driver’s licence
- Clothing
- At least $100 in cash

According to Sharon, her 25-year-old sister was “crying all the way back” and suffered a panic attack. “We weren’t able to console her at all at that moment,” added the Stomper.

Sharon said a driver from another coach company eventually found the backpack in a drain near the passenger drop-off point at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur.

The bag was recovered in good condition, with none of its contents missing.

However, the Stomper was unhappy with how the situation was handled, alleging that coach company staff had given the family conflicting information about the backpack’s whereabouts.

## Conflicting information led to unnecessary search

In an email to the customer service team on Sept 30, Sharon said she was told by staff that Eliz’s backpack had been seen at the second drop-off point.

The same employee also “confidently” suggested that someone might have taken the bag at the third drop-off point in Larkin, Johor Bahru.

“It caused a lot of hassle for us to go and search around the Larkin bus station,” lamented the Stomper.

Given where the bag was eventually found, Eliz and Sharon suspect that it might have fallen out when passengers were collecting their luggage at TBS — the first drop-off point — and had been overlooked by the driver.

Sharon added that they had to lodge a police report, make additional trips to search for the bag, pay the driver who recovered it and arrange for bank card replacements.

Though the sisters are grateful that someone found the backpack and contacted them, they still feel the inconvenience could have been avoided.

“Eliz had the smile back on her face only when the backpack was returned back to her,” recounted Sharon.

In her complaint to the coach company, the Stomper requested an investigation, a written explanation, an apology, reimbursement of expenses and appropriate compensation for the time and distress caused.

## No response after two emails, passenger alleges

The passenger said she followed up with the coach company on Oct 8 after receiving no acknowledgement or response to her initial complaint.

In the follow-up email, she asked the company to clarify the conflicting information and provide an update on its investigation and proposed reimbursement.

As of Oct 22, Eliz confirmed that she still had not received a response.

“There was not even one apology message from the CS (customer service) for all the hassle they put us through,” the frustrated Stomper said.

Stomp has reached out to the coach company for comment.
