A bubble tea shop at Clarke Quay has made a police report after a woman allegedly presented a fake screenshot of a PayNow payment to avoid paying for her order.

An employee of the Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea outlet at Clarke Quay Central shared with Stomp that the incident happened on Dec 18.

In clips shared by Yi Fang, the woman enters the shop and eventually presents her phone to staff before walking out with $79.60 worth of beverages.

"Upon studying the screenshot of the alleged PayNow payment, we noticed a marked-out area that has erased the critical date and time stamp," the employee said.

"We take a photo of PayNow payments from customers.

"After studying this, you can see the erased markings of where the date and time stamp should be."

The employee also pointed out that the woman looked familiar and referred to a similar incident that happened at an East Coast cafe reported earlier this year.

"We've observed striking similarities, including a similar appearance, hairstyle, and even the same bag and footwear as the woman."

In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

"We hope you can share this to help alert other businesses," the Yi Fang employee said.
