Woman stands in middle of one-way road in Little India, blocks traffic to chope parking lot for car
A woman stood in the middle of a road and blocked traffic to reserve a parking space for a car in Little India.
Stomper Lee alerted Stomp to a video of the April 6 incident at Mayo Street posted online by SG Road Vigilante.
The single-lane street allows parallel parking on both sides of the road, but all the lots were full.
As the cam car approached the woman from behind, she turned around and gestured to the cam car to wait.
She also stopped another car from leaving its parking spot to allow a red Hyundai Ioniq to reverse against the flow of traffic into the narrow one-way road, guided by the woman.
It was only after the Hyundai came right in front of the cam car that it stopped and the woman let the other car leave its parking spot.
The Hyundai then drove forward and reversed into the now vacated space.
The whole process took about 1½ minutes.
One netizen commented on the video: "If I were the driver, I would use the horn to alert her that standing in the middle of the road is both unsafe and against the law."
Others pointed out the reversing into a one-way street is illegal as it is driving against traffic. The penalty is six demerit points and a $200 fine for cars.
Another commented: "Speechless. But than again I give credit to the lady for her persistence."
