A woman discovered she was cheated by a man who sold her a counterfeit iPhone 16 Pro Max at $600.

The woman had bought the fake iPhone from a 40-year-old man who approached her at City Plaza.

After the purchase, the woman was unable to log into her Apple ID account.

She then brought the phone to an authorised retailer, where she found out it was a counterfeit.

The woman then called the police on March 12 to inform them of the situation, the police said in a statement.

Through further investigations, the identity of the man was discovered. He was arrested on March 19 along with his suspected accomplice, a 34-year-old man.

A total of 22 counterfeit mobile phones, charging cables, and cash amounting to more than $1,000 were seized as case exhibits.

Both men will be charged in court on March 20 with the offence of cheating. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police advise members of the public to be cautious when approached by strangers offering to sell luxury items, especially at significantly discounted prices.
