What could be worse than discovering a cockroach in your food?

Finding part of a cockroach, it seems.

Stomper Bobo had purchased economy rice from the cai fan stall at Primax Building Coffee Shop, located at 22 New Industrial Road in Hougang, on Oct 30.

She recounted: "While enjoying my lunch at the office, I discovered cockroach legs in my food. I initially tried to convince myself it wasn't what it appeared to be, but ultimately, it was disgusting and made me lose my appetite.

"The incident has not only left me shocked, anxious and distressed, but also raised serious concerns about the hygiene and food safety practices at this establishment."

Bobo said she is unable to confirm whether it was a whole cockroach as she "didn't dare to inspect the food again after that disturbing discovery," but believes it was just part of the insect.

Photos she sent to Stomp show what appears to be two hairy-looking legs sticking out from some vegetables.

"Unfortunately, this is not the first time I’ve encountered issues with food hygiene at this shop," Bobo added.

"I have noticed unsanitary conditions on several occasions, which I believe warrants public attention. I believe it is crucial for the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to investigate this stall thoroughly to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"I hope that by sharing my experience, it will encourage others to be cautious and raise awareness about the importance of food hygiene in our community."

Bobo, who reported the incident to SFA on the same day, said she will never visit the stall again.

In response to a Stomp query, SFA said it is investigating the case.

The agency added: "Food safety is a joint responsibility.

"While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained."

Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via its online feedback form.

SFA said it takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained.
