Woman feels something brushed against her leg on escalator in MRT station, turns around to see...
A woman was taking the escalator at Paya Lebar MRT station on Sept 24, 2024, when she felt something brushed against her calf.
She turned around and saw a man purportedly holding a phone with the camera lens facing upwards.
When she confronted him, the man allegedly touched her before grabbing his phone and fled as she shouted for help.
Mr Mohammed Nurhakeem Abdul Salam heard her and chased down the man, detaining him until the police arrived.
The man was arrested for voyeurism and outrage of modesty with use of criminal force.
On March 11, Mr Nurhakeem was among the eight recipients of the Public Spiritedness Award presented by the Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Wong.

Another recipient was Mr Amos Chia Sok Heng.
On Aug 31, 2024, he was at a restaurant along Geylang Road when he observed a man removing a phone from someone's bag. After the man fled with the phone, Mr Chia pursued him and successfully detained him. The stolen phone was recovered and the man was arrested for theft.
The third recipient, Mr Faizal Salleh Mohamed Kassim, provided his in-car camera footage to the police after a motorcycle was reported stolen on Nov 2. The footage proved critical in solving the case and a male suspect was arrested for theft of motor vehicle.
Also commended was Mr Nicholas Chan Poh Scott, who was in a lift with an intoxicated man who had a karambit knife on Nov 4. Believing the situation might escalate, Mr Chan called the police and followed the man at a safe distance to confirm his whereabouts. The man was subsequently arrested under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act and Misuse of Drugs Act.
On March 11, a woman was notified by her friend that her handbag which she placed on the table at an eatery in Tampines was allegedly taken away by an unknown man. She left the eatery and spotted the man. She confronted him on the alleged theft and he returned the handbag to her.
Shortly after she returned to the eatery, she discovered that her wallet was not in her handbag and probably still in the man's possession.
She approached a passerby, Mr Rozali Bin Koming, for assistance and they searched for the man together. Mr Rozali spotted and confronted the man who tried to flee. Mr Lai Wai Kiat and Mr Hassin Shah Immani Shah, who were in the area, saw what was happening and assisted in detaining the man, who was arrested for theft.
Mr Rozali, Mr Lai and Mr Hassin recieved the Public Spiritedness Award too.
