Woman arrested after police raid in Pandan Valley, 500 counterfeit handbags and wallets seized
A 46-year-old woman was arrested for selling counterfeit goods after a police raid on June 18.
Acting on information from Singapore Customs, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted the raid in Pandan Valley, said the police in a June 24 news release.
Around 500 purported trademark-infringing items such as handbags and wallets were seized. They were sold at makeshift stalls across Singapore and had an estimated street value of more than $2,700 in total.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The offence of importing, selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trademarks carries a fine of up to $100,000, an imprisonment term of up to five years, or both.
A police spokesperson said: "We take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringement and would like to remind the public that the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.
"We will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers."
