Woman allegedly swaps old boots for new pair and leaves store without paying
A woman was caught on camera allegedly walking out of a shop with a new pair of boots without paying for them.
Stomper Randy alerted Stomp to a Facebook post by Katie Poh in the Complaint Singapore group.
Katie shared that the incident happened at around 3pm on Aug 4 at her friend's shop. She did not specify the store's location.
The woman had entered the shop to try on a pair of boots. While the shop assistant was busy attending to another customer, she allegedly placed her old boots into the shoebox, put on the new pair, and left the store without making payment.
CCTV footage shared in the post shows her putting the old boots in the box before walking out in the new footwear.
"To the lady or anyone who knows her, please inform her that she has two days to return and make payment," the post read. "If payment is not received by Aug 6, the shop owner will proceed to lodge a police report.
"Business has already been very tough for small retailers, and incidents like this make things even harder.
"We hope this post will also serve as a reminder to other shops to stay vigilant and prevent such cases from happening to them."
Several netizens expressed shock at the woman's actions and urged the shop owner to lodge a police report immediately.
In an update, Katie said the woman had returned to make payment for the boots on Aug 5 at about 12.30pm.
She thanked those who shared the post, adding that her friend has decided not to pursue the matter further and "believes everyone deserves a second chance".
