Woman allegedly steals sunglasses from airport shop and flies off, returns 2 months later and gets arrested
A woman flew off after allegedly stealing a pair of sunglasses from a Changi Airport shop in the transit area and was arrested when she returned to Singapore two months later.
The eyewear valued at about $270 was discovered missing after a stock take on Oct 14.
The police were alerted on Oct 17.
With the aid of CCTV footage, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the 43-year-old woman.
Preliminary investigations revealed that after entering the store, the suspect allegedly removed the price tag of the sunglasses she picked up from a display shelf and replaced them with her own sunglasses before leaving the store without paying.
But by then, she had departed Singapore on a flight.
However, the foreigner was subsequently arrested on Dec 14 after she returned to Singapore.
The woman will be charged in court on Dec 18 for theft in dwelling, which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
