Indian national allegedly hid stolen perfume worth $742 when confronted by Changi Airport security
A woman from India allegedly stole four bottles of perfume worth about $742 from different shops at Changi Airport.
On March 15, the police were alerted to a suspected case of shop theft at The Shilla Duty Free Cosmetic Shop located at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Transit area.
Retail staff had discovered two bottles of perfume were missing during an inventory check, the police said in a statement.
Upon checking the CCTV footage, staff observed that a woman had entered the retail shop and allegedly took two bottles of perfume without paying.
The staff alerted a security officer on patrol and the security officer managed to find and detain the woman within the transit area before she could depart from Singapore.
When confronted by the security officer, the woman returned only one bottle of perfume.
However, upon searching her bag, another three bottles of perfume were found.
Further investigations revealed that the woman had gone into another retail shop where she took another two bottles of perfume and left the shop without paying.
All four of the perfume bottles were recovered and returned to the retail shops.
The police then arrested the 28-year-old female Indian national, who was in transit in Singapore.
The woman will be charged in court on March 20 with the offence of theft in dwelling.
The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.
