Woman accosted by stranger who snatched her handphone and fled at River Valley Close

A 34-year-old man was arrested for snatch theft after he allegedly accosted a 28-year-old woman along River Valley Close, snatched her handphone and fled the scene.

The police said they were alerted to the case on Feb 25, at around 4.15am.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV and police cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him within the same day.

The stolen handphone valued at $1,800 was subsequently recovered.

The man will be charged in court on Feb 27 with the offence of snatch theft, which carries a jail term of between one year and seven years, and caning.
