Woman, 74, allegedly steals 27 food items from FairPrice in Taman Jurong, suspected of 2 earlier thefts at same outlet
A 74-year-old woman will be charged with theft in dwelling at Taman Jurong Shopping Centre, said the police in a news release on June 8.
She had allegedly stolen 27 food items amounting to about $74 from the NTUC FairPrice supermarket in the shopping centre at 399 Yung Sheng Road on Aug 28, 2024.
When she attempted to leave without paying, she was detained by a staff member and was subsequently arrested by police.
Further investigations revealed that she had allegedly stolen 48 food items amounting to about $212 on March 29, 2024, and another 27 food items amounting to about $103 on Aug 1 from the same outlet.
The woman is among 15 people who will be charged in court from June 9 to 10, 2025, with theft in dwelling.
One of them is a 34-year-old woman who had allegedly stolen seven grocery items, amounting to about $60, from the Sheng Siong outlet at 61 Teban Gardens Road on July 20, 2024.
After she was arrested, it was revealed that she was involved in four earlier cases of shop theft at the same Sheng Siong supermarket between July 8 and 17, stealing 16 grocery items amounting to about $200.
In another case at Sheng Siong, a 62-year-old woman allegedly stole two boxes of flu tablets amounting to about $31 from the Junction Nine outlet on Nov 9.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV footage, the police managed to establish her identity. Further investigations revealed that she had allegedly stolen another two boxes of flu tablets from the same Sheng Siong outlet on Nov 3.
More recently, on March 23, 2025, a 54-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing eight food items amounting to about $80 from the Cold Storage outlet at Great World City.
In another case at Cold Storage, a 46-year-old-woman was arrested for allegedly stealing five grocery items amounting to about $202 from the supermarket at Compass One on May 7.
The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
