What a buzzkill: Insect digs into economy rice from Sembawang stall with 6-year-old-girl
A man bought a packet of economy rice from Koufu food court at Sembawang Mart for his six-year-old daughter.
However, the meal was ruined when they discovered an insect in the food.
Stomper Alex purchased the takeaway meal from the Chang Cheng stall on March 1, at around 11.45am.
He recounted: "There was a fly inside the steamed chicken dish! My daughter was consuming the dish halfway, but luckily, she spotted the fly before eating it."
Alex shared photos showing a winged insect on a piece of a chicken.
In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it is looking into the matter.
It added: "Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.
"Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via the online feedback form.
"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices. As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
