A van burst into flames in Balestier on Sept 3.

Stomper Jarald alerted Stomp to the incident that happened in front of Value Hotel Thomson.

"I'm the one who called the fire rescue team to come," Jarald said.

"I saw people going near to take videos and photos instead of calling for help.

"It was also very dangerous to go too near as I heard a few small explosions."

In videos shared by the Stomper, the van can be seen engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising into the sky.

Stomper Jenn shared rear dashcam footage of the fire from another angle.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 1pm, near the junction of Balestier Road and Jalan Datoh.

"The fire involved the engine compartment of a van," an SCDF spokesperson said.

"SCDF extinguished the fire using a hosereel."

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
