The track fault had occurred near Orchard station at around 8.45am, said SMRT in a social media post.

"Our staff were onsite to investigate the fault, to ensure the safety of our commuters and safe restoration of train services," added SMRT.

"Commuters were advised to factor in an additional 15 minutes of travel time between Toa Payoh and Somerset stations. In-train and station announcements were made to inform commuters.

"We seek commuters' understanding and apologise for the longer travelling time to your journey."

Train service progressively resumed from about 9.50am.
