Traffic offender detained at airport for trying to leave S'pore without permission even though case settled
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
A traffic offender was detained at Changi Airport for trying to leave Singapore without permission even though her case had been settled.
Stomper Anonymous felt she was unfairly treated like a criminal.
This was after she had caused an accident on June 29 that resulted in multiple injuries.
"I was arrested. I gave my statement and was released on bail," recounted the Stomper.
"The Traffic Police investigative officer (IO) informed me that I could not travel while the case was under investigation."
She continued: "On July 16, I attended court, pleaded guilty, paid my fine, had my driving license disqualified and the case settled," said the Stomper.
"On July 21, I was at the airport and was stopped at immigration. My exit was blocked. When Immigration and Checkpoints Authority called my IO, she said I couldn't travel because I did not seek her permission.
"My case was already settled, but I was detained and refused exit like a criminal.
"This has caused me a monetary setback and major distress because of all the follow-ups I had to do after I was blocked from flying."
The Stomper said she is seeking justice.
"My case was settled. Why am I still treated as a criminal?" she asked.
