Threatening note with vulgar words pasted on gate of Choa Chu Kang flat, 40-year-old man arrested

A 40-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in loanshark harassment in Choa Chu Kang.

The police were alerted on July 20 at about 4.35pm to the case at a Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 flat, where a debtor's note was found pasted on the gate.

Seized as case exhibit, the note contained vulgarities and threatened to burn the door.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him.

The man will be charged in court on July 24 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
