The simple reason why nearly all phones in Japan are waterproof

Despite how advanced technology is these days, many of our smartphones are still not waterproof and become easily damaged upon getting wet.

However, according to Asian Town, nearly 90% to 95% of mobile phones in Japan are water-resistant and have been so for almost a decade now.

Released in 2005, the Casio Canu 502S is the world’s first waterproof mobile phone and was soon followed by a series of Fujitsu waterproof handhelds.

Before long, every company looking to enter the Japanese market had to make their devices waterproof.

The reason behind this is simpler than you think: People in Japan want to be able to use their mobile devices while they are showering.
