Teen boy arrested for splashing Yishun unit with white paint and leaving graffiti on wall
A 17-year-old boy was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
The door and gate of a residential unit along Yishun Ring Road were splashed with white paint, with the wall beside having been vandalised with graffiti.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case on March 18.
Through further investigations, the identity of the teenager was discovered.
He was arrested on the same day, within four hours of the report.
The teenager will be charged in court on March 19.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with an imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
In a statement made by the police, they state that "those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace, and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
The public can call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
