A 19-year-old teenager was arrested on May 21 for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

The police were alerted on May 17 to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Senja Close.

The main door and gate of the unit were splashed with black and green paint, and the wall beside the unit was scribbled with loanshark-related graffiti.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong and Woodlands Police Division established the teenager's identity and arrested him.

He is believed to be involved in another similar case of loanshark harassment along Woodlands Street 41.

The teenager will be charged in court on May 22 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.

The public can call the police at '999' if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
