Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.

A stroke survivor says he feels like he's living out the plot of a Korean movie by being falsely accused of making noise despite his limited mobility.

Potong Pasir resident Stomper Mr SLWK told Stomp he was inspired to share his story after watching the Netflix thriller Wall to Wall, which follows a man tormented by disturbing noises and hostile neighbours in his 14th-floor apartment.

"The story hit uncomfortably close to home because I'm living through the same nightmare in Singapore," said Mr SLWK.

"I'm a stroke survivor with significant mobility challenges. How to make noise?"

The Stomper was discharged from Tan Tock Seng Hospital in April 2022 and still requires support to walk. He uses a walking stick at home and engages a befriender or volunteer for assistance when going out.

Despite his condition, his neighbour below has reportedly been harassing him regularly and accusing him of being a 'noise nuisance'.

"This accusation is not only untrue but cruel, especially considering my physical limitations," he shared.

"Despite my efforts to keep peace and live quietly, my neighbour has repeatedly harassed me by banging on walls, hurling vulgarities, and creating loud, disturbing noises.

"On July 18, the noise from below persisted for nearly an hour until midnight and resumed again early the next morning at 6am, leaving me physically shaken and emotionally distressed."

Mr SLWK said he has filed multiple reports with the town council, the Housing Board (HDB) and the police, and even attempted to obtain a Personal Protection Order (PPO), but the harassment has not stopped.

"The emotional and mental toll continues to weigh on me daily," he said.

"Why should someone with medical conditions be treated like this in their own home? What more can I do to prove that I am not the one causing the noise?

"I hope by sharing my story - mirroring the themes of Wall to Wall - it can shed light on how real and damaging neighbour harassment can be, especially when directed at vulnerable residents.

"I plead for stronger enforcement and protection for those like me who suffer in silence."
