Stomper shows how releasing sky lanterns in Taiwan can get a little dangerous
Thinking of releasing sky lanterns in Shifen, Taiwan, with your loved ones for that perfect Instagram moment?
Stomper Aram, who recently visited the popular tourist destination, advises visitors to 'be careful' and watch out for oncoming trains.
While launching sky lanterns along the railway tracks is a beautiful tradition, it's not without danger.
"The next time you visit Shifen to make that romantic wish with your forever-love, be careful as you launch your sky lanterns and make sure you don't get in the way of the incoming train that will come at quite a high speed," he warned.
"It's not like the slow trains at Thailand's Maeklong Railway Market that crawl by the crowds at a leisurely pace.
"These trains are fast, and if you don't get out of the way in time… well, just watch the 360° VR video and see how fast it comes."
Aram shared a video he posted on his YouTube channel, Singapore 360, and instructs viewers to jump to the 06:06 timestamp to see how people react to the incoming train.
The Stomper shared that this was his second visit to Shifen, and while most tourists cleared the tracks quickly after being warned, he worries that someday someone may push their luck.
"I believe at some point, there's going to be that odd hero tourist who would try something stupid just for 'likes' and get him or herself killed," he said.
Aside from the heart-pounding lantern launch, Aram also recommends Taiwan as a family-friendly destination.
"Taiwan is suitable for Singapore families with young kids," he shared.
"There's lots to do and see.
"My kids' favourite place was the Taipei Children's Amusement Park.
"It's cheap and catered to lower primary school children."
With recent concerns over cracked buildings in Bangkok and earthquake warnings in Japan, Aram believes more Singaporeans might look to Taiwan for their June holidays.
