SMRT bus driver, 58, dies after crashing bus into tree at Woodlands
A 58-year-old bus driver died after an SMRT bus crashed into a tree along Woodlands Avenue 2 on April 16.
Stomper Keshme alerted Stomp to the incident and shared a video of the accident's aftermath near Republic Polytechnic.
In the video, the front windscreen of the bus is smashed and debris is scattered on the ground.
Firefighters are at the scene and a person is seen performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on someone in the driver's seat.
In response to Stomp queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the accident at 9.25am.
The male bus driver was unconscious when he was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital where he subsequently died.
Police investigations are ongoing.
SMRT buses deputy managing director Vincent Gay told The Straits Times that bus service 911 had been travelling along Woodlands Avenue 2 towards Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub when the accident happened.
No commuters were on board at the time.
"We are very saddened to learn of the passing of our bus captain," said Mr Gay. "Our priority is to render care and support to (his) next-of-kin during this difficult time."
