SMRT has apologised after a power fault disrupted service across all the stations on the Bukit Panjang LRT line on the afternoon of July 19.

It resulted in four stalled trains between stations.

Stomper Anonymous said he was stuck on a train for at least 30 minutes. He shared photos of passengers on board and an SMRT staff member on the tracks approaching the train.

A TikTok user posted a video of passengers alighting from a stalled train onto the tracks and walking on the viaduct to a station.

"Our staff safely guided commuters through the detrainment process from the stalled trains to the nearest stations," said SMRT in a social media post.

The public transport operator first posted about the power fault at 2.45pm. Free regular and bridging bus services were available at the bus stops outside the stations during the disruption.

"In-train and station announcements were made to keep commuters updated on the situation," added SMRT.

At 4.18pm, it was announced that train services had resumed normal operations.

This is the second disruption on the Bukit Panjang LRT line this month.

On July 3, another power fault led to a disruption at all stations for about three hours.

SMRT updated that both power faults share a "similar familiar failure mode". This system is currently still under the Defects Liability Period.

"The LTA project team is conducting a thorough investigation, including a full design review by the OEM contractor to strengthen network stability and prevent further recurrence. A key focus is ensuring that the traction power supply remains stable, especially while the system is still being commissioned," added SMRT.

"The BPLRT Power Renewal Project is targeted for completion by the end 2026, and we continue to monitor the system closely as works progress."
