Stomper Derek was on his way back from his evening run when he noticed a commotion at the junction of Toh Tuck Road and Highgate Walk last night (Dec 15) at 11pm.

He first noticed the sirens from an ambulance before he saw a taxi in flames.

Said the Stomper:

"It was quite an intense fire and there was a strong burning smell in the air from the tyres.

"A crowd of about 20 had gathered to watch the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers put out the flames.

"I want to commend the SCDF personnel on their bravery and efficiency."

A spokesperson from SCDF informed Stomp that one fire engine and one red rhino were dispatched to the scene.

The fire was extinguished using one fire hose and two compressed air foam backpacks.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
