Remember to belt up, road users -- for the sake of your safety and wallet
If you thought that only drivers need to put on seat belts, here's a reality check.
In a video posted on Roads.sg, a driver was stopped during a safety check at a road block.
According to accompanying caption, the rear passenger in the vehicle did not put on a seat belt.
A voice, supposedly from one of the officers stationed there, told the driver: "Passengers behind have to put on seat belts."
His vehicle was subsequently ushered to the side of the pavement.
This video serves as a remainder for both drivers and passengers to put on their seat belts.
Not only will it help minimise injuries during accidents, it can also potentially help them avoid a fine.
According to the SPF website, the penalties for not wearing seat belts are as follows:
"A fine of $120 will be imposed on adult passengers who fail to belt up.
"If charged in court and convicted, the penalty shall be a fine not exceeding S$1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months.
"In a case of a second or subsequent offence, a fine not exceeding S$2,000 will be imposed, or a imprisonment term not exceeding six months."
