Mitsubishi driver crashes into signpost while trying to avoid turning SBS double-decker bus along Sims Drive
Stomper Melvin crashed his Mitsubishi Colt Turbo into a signpost along Sims Drive on May 4 at around 6.28pm while trying to avoid a turning SBS double-decker bus.
In a telephone interview, the Stomper said he was first travelling on the road at around 40 to 50km/h. He then saw that the bus was turning despite the driver not having the right of way.
To avoid a head-on collision, the Stomper swerved his car to the right and lost control of it thereafter.
The car then rammed into a signpost by the road.
A video captured by the Stomper's dashboard camera shows how the events unfolded during the accident.
Judging from the footage, the Mitsubishi crashed into the signpost at a relatively high speed.
The car's airbags were deployed following the crash.
Said Melvin about what happened:
"I decided to swerve my car because I thought a head-on collision will be much worse.
"I could not brake after that as my car went out of control.
"My passenger and I were sent to hospital after that.
"The both of us sustained external injuries. The doctor said my passenger also had a dented chest.
"I am appealing for witnesses who saw what happened to assist in investigations."
Photos sent by the Stomper show the bonnet of his Mitsubishi completely smashed.
Said a police spokesperson in response to a Stomp query:
"On May 4 at 6.46pm, the police were alerted to an accident involving a car and a government property along Sims drive towards Sims Place.
"The 30-year-old driver and a passenger were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
"Police investigations are ongoing."
