Shopee affiliate banned from livestreaming for 7 days after being caught doing so while driving
It is an offence for a driver to use a mobile communication device while the vehicle is in motion.
Stomper JJ shared a screenshot of a Shopee affiliate using her phone to livestream while driving recently.
"I was watching Shopee Live when I saw a streamer drive and stream at the same time," said the Stomper.
"So dangerous."
In response to a Stomp query, a Shopee spokesperson said on Oct 15: "Shopee takes this incident very seriously.
"Livestreamers are required to conduct themselves professionally and comply with local laws and safety regulations while using our platform.
"Thus, Shopee has taken the appropriate disciplinary measures with the livestreamer accordingly."
On Oct 17, the affiliate posted in her Telegram channel: "Hi everyone, I apologise for the inconvenience, but my account has been banned from live-streaming.
"I will be back on Oct 23!
"In the meantime, you can still support me by using my vouchers. Thank you for your understanding!"
In the Shopee Live policy, streaming while driving is considered a dangerous act under hurtful activities and the penalty is a seven-day ban from livestreaming.
"Hosting a livestream while driving is not allowed and is considered an offence under section 65B of the Road Traffic Act 1961," said the policy.
Under the Act, an offender is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both. A repeat offender is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
In January, another Shopee livestreamer was called out for using her phone to livestream while driving.
Ms Agnes Boo, the livestreamer, told Stomp: "I humbly apologise for my lapse in judgement and accept the disciplinary action.
"Moving forward, I will take extra care to ensure safety and compliance in my future content and activities."
