Sembawang resident so bothered by neighbours' clutter that he emailed PM Wong about it
A man feels that his neighbours are cluttering and "abusing" common spaces at their Sembawang residence.
Stomper Master Hardware shared photos at taken Block 463A Sembawang Drive, showing items such as shoe racks placed outside various units.
He said: "Allowing residents to place personal items along the common corridor can be a fire hazard or cause danger to others. The potted plants could also be fatal to people if they fall to the ground.
Master Hardware also feels that there is "plenty of space" inside one's unit for shoe cabinets, without the need to clutter the corridor.
He added: "I did email Prime Minister Lawrence Wong about this, but was ignored."
The Stomper shared screenshots of emails that he sent to PM Wong in Nov and Dec last year.
In one email, he said he had "checked every floor" of the block but did not wish to make the issue "viral in Stomp".
"Prevention (of accidents) is better than cure," he wrote in another email.
In response to a Stomp query, a spokeswoman for Sembawang Town Council said rules and regulations by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) require common corridors to have a minimum clearance of 1.2m to allow for emergency evacuation.
"Items that are easily movable and have a clearance of 1.2m are usually not considered obstructions," the spokeswoman noted.
"The safety and well-being of all residents remains a top priority for the Sembawang Town Council.
"In light of this, we will display an educational poster to educate the residents and advise the affected units to keep the common areas clean and free of hazards.
"Meanwhile, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and will visit the affected units to assess the situation and engage with the residents directly if further action is required.
"We appreciate your understanding as we address this feedback."
