A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman has died after being found unconscious at the Hendon Camp swimming pool on National Day at 7.15am.

He appeared to have been training on his own, said the Ministry of Defence in a news release.

The ministry said that cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator were administered immediately.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted, and the serviceman was evacuated to Changi General Hospital via an SCDF ambulance.

Despite resuscitation on route and upon arrival at the hospital, he was pronounced dead at 7.44am.

"The Ministry of Defence and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late serviceman. We are also rendering assistance to the family during this time of grief," added the ministry.

Hendon Camp at Old Pier Road in Changi is the base of the First Commando Battalion, which won the Best Combat Unit Award in June for the 21st consecutive year.

In 2006, a Commando regular officer, Lieutenant Lionel Lin Shi Guan, 24, died after
encountering difficulties while undergoing training at the same pool on June 21.

More recently, on June 30, 2025, a 30-year-old operationally-ready national serviceman collapsed outside Maju Camp and died in hospital a day before SAF Day.
