Existing measures do not seem to have stopped improper disposal of rubbish at Block 549 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, said a resident.

Stomper Tan called for more action to be taken to deter the persistent littering, which has been attracting pests.

Tan, who shared photos of trash discarded around the first floor of the block, said: "Residents here often throw their rubbish and food waste beside the bins at the void deck. Rodents and cockroaches feed on the food waste.

"Despite feedback to the authorities many times, the problem persists."

The Stomper proposed some solutions.

"There are four bins placed at the void deck," he explained.

"These bins have small openings and large bags cannot be thrown into them. Replacing the bins with larger bins with covers will be a more viable option.

"There are many CCTV cameras installed at the void deck, but they are all pointing at the bicycles. Placing the bins within the coverage of these cameras will deter illegal dumping.

"Lastly, I request that the MP of Cheng San makes regular visits to the blocks. Dirty public places and hogging of common corridors are rampant. Regular inspections and CCTV policing will deter such irresponsible acts."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) said it is aware of the feedback regarding improper waste disposal at the block.

"To improve refuse management, we are arranging to replace the existing bin at the block with a larger, covered bin to better accommodate the waste volume," the spokesperson added.

"The CCTV cameras currently at the void deck belong to the police and are positioned for crime prevention. We will be placing advisory notices near the bin area to remind residents to dispose of waste properly and to discourage illegal dumping."

AMKTC will consider installing CCTV cameras in the area to monitor the situation if these notices prove ineffective.

The spokesperson told Stomp: "We will continue to conduct regular inspections and work closely with relevant agencies to maintain cleanliness and address obstruction issues in the common areas.

"We would like to take this opportunity to urge residents to be considerate by bagging all rubbish securely, placing them inside the bins and not around them, and closing the bins after use."
