A Fernvale resident was treated to a gory sight before lunch: a bloodied turtle on the ground.

Stomper Daph spotted the horrifying sight at Block 403A Fernvale Lane on March 30, near a row of Pick lockers, as she was about to return a parcel.

Due to the grisly condition of the turtle, she suspected it might have been “abused or tortured”.

Daph suggested: “Maybe someone threw it from the block, as there were some blood stains on the floor?”

After taking photographs of the turtle that she had intended to use in reporting to animal welfare groups and Stomp, Daph departed for a quick lunch.

But upon returning to the area at 1.15pm, she was slightly surprised to see that the carcass was no longer there.

“Someone must have taken it away before 1.30pm. It’s good because there is a school nearby and kids may see it,” Daph said.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson from Ang Mo Kio Town Council, which oversees the block in question, said it was not previously aware of the turtle carcass.

“Following the feedback, our conservancy team conducted checks in the surrounding blocks at Fernvale Lane but did not find any animal carcass,” said the spokesperson.

“We have reminded our conservancy team to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspected cases of animal abuse to our property officers for further investigation and follow-up with the relevant authorities, where necessary.”
