No rat activity was found in Lorong 9 Geylang eateries when inspected by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

But signs of rat activities and poor housekeeping conditions were detected at a nearby construction site, NEA told Stomp on April 8.

Enforcement actions under the Control of Vectors and Pesticides Act 1998 will be taken.

This followed an April 2 Stomp report that rodents were spotted in the alley next to the Geylang Lorong 9 Fresh Frog Porridge restaurant in the early hours of March 8.

Stomper Lee shared a video of several rats scurrying on the road, under a table and waste bin.

In response to a Stomp query, NEA said it has advised the relevant stakeholders and premises managers to ensure good housekeeping, proper refuse management, and to step up their vector control measures.

The owners of the food establishments were reminded to ensure food is stored above the ground and in tightly covered containers, properly bag their refuse before disposal and to keep their establishment clean of food scraps to prevent easy access to food by rodents.

"Premises owners have also been reminded to remove items in the back alley to avoid providing harbourage for rats," said NEA.

"To effectively manage the rat situation, all stakeholders must ensure good housekeeping and refuse management practices, conduct routine checks, and step up control measures where necessary.

"NEA will continue to work closely with stakeholders, including SFA, and take enforcement actions for any lapses detected."
