In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 8.15am.

The fire, involving contents of a bedroom, was extinguished by SCDF using a water jet.

SCDF and the police evacuated about 50 residents from the block.

Two people from the flat were assessed for smoke inhalation and were taken to Singapore General Hospital, added SCDF.

A neighbour told Shin Min Daily News that the two people said the fire was caused by a power bank.

SCDF said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
