# ‘Personal activities’ allegedly occur in Dhoby Ghaut toilet, cyclist sees man ‘unzipping another man’s trousers’

A cyclist who wanted to freshen up at a publicly accessible toilet in the Dhoby Ghaut area was disturbed when he saw what appeared to be men engaging in “highly suspicious” and “potentially inappropriate” acts.

Stomper Bast — who works at the building on Penang Road — commutes to and from work by bicycle daily, parking his bicycle at what he calls a “communal bicycle hub”.

On Oct 14 at around 8.12pm, Bast went to the toilet adjacent to the bicycle parking lots, where he stumbled upon allegedly inappropriate behaviour.

“I entered the toilet and unexpectedly came across two men in a compromising position. One appeared to be midway through unzipping the other man’s trousers,” reported the Stomper.

Bast said that the men pulled away after noticing him, and “pretended that nothing had happened”.

The Stomper subsequently left the toilet to “pack up” his bicycle, intending to return shortly to use the shower. However, he discovered that the toilet door was locked from the inside.

He then alerted the building’s security guards to the problem. However, by the time they arrived, the door had been unlocked — and Bast was met with a different sight.

“To my surprise, there were five men inside the toilet, all behaving as though they were simply using the facilities,” claimed the cyclist.

Soon, four of them exited but appeared to linger around the area, while a fifth man remained inside the toilet.

This led Bast to speculate that the fifth man was keeping watch for the other four “and waiting for an opportunity to signal for the others to return once the area was clear”.

The Stomper admitted that he was not able to confirm the men’s intentions, but found that the chain of events appeared “coordinated and highly suspicious”.

He shared a video of three men whom he claimed were part of the group of five, saying that he had followed them because he felt they were behaving suspiciously.

## Not the first time

This was apparently not the first time that Bast has observed such behaviours at the location.

He described a “similar situation” that previously occurred in the same toilet, which was purportedly also locked from the inside then.

“When the door was eventually opened, I noticed a strong and unusual smell throughout the toilet, which reminded me of personal lubricant,” he alleged, though he was unable to establish what had happened.

He questioned whether the toilet is being used “for activities beyond its intended purpose”.

He has since made a police report and shared his concerns on a popular Singapore subreddit, which has since seen more than 100 upvotes.

## Stomper urges respect for shared facilities

“My concern is not about anyone’s sexual orientation or what consenting adults choose to do in private,” Bast insisted.

His concern is with the way these public toilets are used. “(This one) serves cyclists, commuters and food delivery riders who depend on its facilities to wash up, change clothes and use the toilet,” he explained.

Bast felt that locking others out of a public toilet for “personal activities” is “unacceptable”.

He called on the building’s management to “take these incidents seriously and investigate the circumstances surrounding the repeated locking of the toilet”.

Through sharing his concerns with the building management — and Stomp — the Stomper hopes for:

- A review of available CCTV footage covering the area
- An investigation of the circumstances surrounding the locked toilets
- Increased security patrols around the bicycle hub, particularly if there have been similar complaints
- Implementation of appropriate measures to prevent misuse of common facilities

Stomp has contacted the building’s owners and anchor tenant for comment.
