Pasir Ris resident still losing sleep after going to MP, NEA and contractor about MRT construction noise
He is literally losing sleep over it.
A Pasir Ris resident said that he is awaken two times nightly by noise from the MRT construction site near his block at Pasir Ris Drive 1.
"They are working on the Cross~Island Line 24 hours except during meal breaks," said Stomper Gerald.
"Every night, I get woken up twice, from 1am to 2am and 5am to 6am."
He approached his MP for help.
"I went for a Meet-The-People session on Feb 7. His reply was the contractor, Daewoo-Dongah, has to continue digging. Cannot stop," said the Stomper.
The Daewoo-Dongah Joint Venture was awarded the $980 million contract for the design and construction of Pasir Ris interchange station and tunnels for the Cross-Island Line in 2021 with passenger service planned to commence in 2030.
"We asked the MP what happens if one by one, the residents fall sick or has loss of hearing. Who is going to compensate us for the medical fees?" recounted the Stomper.
"He kept quiet. We waited from 7.15pm to 10.15pm for his answer. He said he would write to the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Three weeks passed. Still same old noise."
The Stomper wrote to the National Environment Agency (NEA) and shared screenshots of the agency's reply.

NEA said it had taken enforcement action against the contractor for exceeding the noise limits.
"We have also requested LTA, as the developer of the project, to work with the contractor to follow up on the concerns regarding construction noise from the worksite, and ensure that adequate noise mitigating measures are implemented," added NEA.
"Recognising your feedback pertaining to their work, the contractor has provided the contact of their public relations officers which will allow them to address your concerns expeditiously."
The Stomper said: "I emailed NEA who directed me to Daewoo Dongah's PR person. She said her team will try their best. But only a few anti~noise balloons surround the BC cutter."

He added that she asked him: "Did you open your window when you sleep?"
The Stomper's reaction to the question was an eye roll emoji.
