Orchid Country Club shuttle bus driver distracted by phone while driving, ComfortDelGro investigating
A shuttle bus driver for Orchid Country Club was caught on camera looking at his phone which he held in one hand while driving with his other hand on the steering wheel.
Twice.
A Stomper, who was a passenger on the bus, shared videos of the driver's worrying behavior on Oct 1 in the afternoon and again at night.
She recounted: "The relief shuttle bus driver driving a Comfort DelGro bus for Orchid Country Club appeared to be distracted while driving, utilising his handphone. He seemingly disregarded the safety of passengers and the law."
This was at 4:45pm.
"Regrettably, a similar incident transpired again at 9:58pm, en route to Yishun MRT station," said the Stomper.
"This is the kind of individual who should not be permitted to operate a vehicle on public roads. Numerous innocent lives have been lost due to similar incidents, which must be prevented.
"Orchid Country Club and Comfort Delgro should investigate this matter and take corrective action forthwith as they bear responsibility for their employees."
In response to a Stomp query, a Orchid Country Club spokesperson said: "The safety and well-being of our guests are of paramount importance to Orchid Country Club."
The shuttle service is outsourced to ComfortDelGro.
"We are in contact with ComfortDelGro, which is investigating the matter," said the spokesperson.
"We expect all our service partners to uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism in the delivery of services to our guests.
"We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that safety remains a key priority across all our operations."
After Stomp contacted ComfortDelGro, a company spokesperson said: "We take safety seriously and are currently investigating the incident involving a relief shuttle bus driver that occurred on Oct 1.
"All drivers have been reminded to ensure that phone holders are securely installed before commencing any journey.
"Safety remains our top priority, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon the conclusion of our investigation."
