Motorist fed up to get summons in mail for 6-month-old violation: 'I've trouble recalling where I drove then'
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
Getting a traffic summons is no fun for any motorist.
But for Stomper Angeline, it was galling for two reasons.
"First, a summons for a traffic violation that I had committed in November 2024 was sent to me in May 2025, six months after it was committed," said the Stomper.
"Why did it take so long? I seriously had trouble recalling where I drove at that time."
She said she lodged an appeal on July 15, but had yet to receive a reply.
"In the meantime, I obediently paid my fine before the due date of July 31," said Angeline.
The other issue arose because she was required to complete a safe driving course for the traffic violation.
"I received two letters for this," recounted the Stomper.
"The first letter was dated July 30 and the second was dated Aug 5. Both letters were found in my letterbox on Aug 26 when I opened it and I open my letterbox every day.
"The July 30 letter stated that I needed to register for the course online by 30 Aug, giving me only four days to react."
Angeline is fed up by what she described as the "high-handedness" of the Traffic Police.
"They are late in sending out letters and then put the onus on the driver to react. They do not conform to the service standard they set for themselves in responding to appeals," she said.
"This level of service by the Traffic Police is unlike any other service I've received from other parts of the Singapore Civil Service."
