A man was seen swinging a sword at people in Sumang Lane in a video circulating online — but there's no need to be alarmed.

The incident is staged for a production and not real, said Minister of State for Home Affairs, Social and Family Development Sun Xueling, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Punggol West.

Addressing residents in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 17), Ms Sun said: "I received several notifications from concerned residents about a video circulating of a person apparently carrying a sword and lashing out at passers by at Sumang Lane.

"I have checked with sources who indicated that it is a filming in progress and not a real incident."

Ms Sun also shared a photo of crew members at the scene.

The video, which has been circulating on social media without proper context, had sparked concern as it shows a man wielding a sword at passers-by.

The man is then seen charging towards a car while still armed with the sword. He appears to fall onto the road after running into the car.

A man and a woman are seen fleeing the car as the man gets up and swings his sword at them.
