The 36-year-old man who drove a car into the water at Ocean Drive, Sentosa Cove yesterday (Aug 25) has been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

Several Stompers had alerted Stomp to videos of the accident, one of which shows the moment the vehicle dived into the sea.

The man, who was being pursued by two Sentosa rangers on motorcycles, was subsequently arrested for criminal trespass and a rash act causing hurt.

Eyewitnesses said the man spoke repeatedly of dying, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The publication also quoted an onlooker who alleged that the man had claimed, "A mermaid told me to do so".

According to The Straits Times, the vehicle was pulled out of the water at around 1.30pm today (Aug 26).

Stomper Prabha shared a video of workers conducting the operation at the scene.
