Man wakes up to wife screaming as 1.5m long snake tries to eat pet bird in Pasir Ris home
Melvin Yap was fast asleep in his home at Jalan Loyang Besar at 6.30am on Oct 30 when he was awoken by the sound of his wife screaming.
He found a 1.5m long snake curled up on top their family's pet cage. He told The Straits Times, "My wife just came back from her night shift and our domestic worker realised there was a snake wrapped around the bird cage."
"When I saw it, I knew it was a python. I used a stick and a plastic bag at arm's length and nudged it into the bag," he said.
"It was quite docile, quite shy." said Mr Yap.
The pet bird was "petrified" and hid in a corner of the cage.
The family kept the reptile in a fish tank and handed it over to the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) on Monday (Oct 30) afternoon.
There has been a spate of incidents involving snakes appearing in urban areas.
Just last week, it was reported that a snake had been found at Yishun Avenue 9.
On the same week, a video had gone viral showing a man from a pest control company trying to nudge a snake off a lamp post at Bukit Batok.
